v-gulliver develops used car business in Thailand


Japan’s number 1 used car firm is confident the Thai market

The new joint venture has been set up to satisfy V-Group’s goal being the number 1 automotive sales and service related conglomerate
Thailand’s leading automotive dealers and service group and Japan’s number 1 used car company jointly announced a new joint venture, V-Gulliver Company Limited, to develop used car business in Thailand with an expectation of strengthening V-Group’s goal being the largest automotive related conglomerate in Thailand.

V-Gulliver was established in the middle of last year 51% of which was held by V-Group while the rest by Gulliver International Group.
According to Mr. Katsushi Nomura, Managing Director of V-Gulliver, the Japanese used car firm had been interested in expanding to Thailand as the Thai market had potential to grow strongly in the near future and the joint venture was the first overseas joint venture of Gulliver International Group.

“Although the market situation right now is not very favorable, we have thought long term business and we are confident that the Thai market will grow healthily. Referring to JETRO Thailand report in 2013, the ratio of car holders among house holders is only 13.8 % in year 2010. On the other hands, Japan is 86.5 % ” said Mr. Nomura.

Under V-Gulliver business plan, he said the first showroom had already been opened on Sri Nakarin Road and within next year its number of nationwide showrooms would reach 100. said Mr. Nomura.
He said V-Gulliver would change used car market as stress and inconvenience market to clear and trusted market through its business structure, including selling and buying used cars to and from end users with Japanese high standard technology and know-how.

“We offer clear and sincere price based on auction and market data with quick response to the customers. We also offer free inspection and evaluation and after that if they decide to sell their cars to us, we will do quick payment as we have strong financial support,” said Mr. Nomura.

He added that on selling used car customer will be provided with fair price, variety of car choice, well maintained used vehicle. We do provide 30 days customer satisfaction buyback and 6 months or 10,000 km free warranty.

Meanwhile, Mr. Puttiphand Thamvichai, V-Gulliver’s executive director, said V-Gulliver had invested 10 million baht in the first showroom and it would invest more within next year to open more than 100 showrooms nationwide

Mr. Puttiphand added that the joint venture was also developing web service to the Thai motorists who need to exchange their vehicles and the company was able to handle well because it was multi brand used car seller and buyer.

He said some competitors might have limited factors as they were not allowed to sell other brand because they were under the certain car firms, while V-Gulliver had free hand to handle all car brands, both of buying and selling.

“Our success is also rely on our partner, we are welcome for the used car seller or new investor to become our franchisee. Gulliver will provide and support Gulliver's know-how and system for our franchisees, such as showroom design and concept, system to operate inspection and pricing, brand marketing and sales promotion, supervising, and high standard customer service.,” said Mr. Puttiphand.

He added that the Japanese partner was very confident on its new business in Thailand because the country was considered as the potential market while V-Group was able to provide strong support.
“V-Group, in fact, is doing many businesses to support the used car business, including car dealer, body and paint, car rental and logistic, etc.” he said.
